St Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina celebrates after hitting a grand slam after the Rally Cat's appearance.

Less than 24 hours after the exciting win, the Cardinals released a statement regarding the matter, with the woman who claimed to own the cat having lost track of the animal in City Garden.

Initial reports said that the Cardinals took the cat to the Humane Society, where it would be safe - but on Thursday morning they denied they had the cat, presumably after dozens of people called to adopt Rally Cat.

A curious cat delayed a baseball game after it sprinted onto the field mid-play - and turned rather feisty when it was made to leave.

If a Rally Cat crosses your path, is it still bad luck?

The Rally Squirrel became the St Louis Cardinals' unofficial mascot during their 2011 World Series championship run.

St Louis' Rally Cat walks past Kansas City centrefielder Lorenzo Cain. It is unknown how it got onto the field in the first place.

It was the fifth loss in six games for Kansas City (57-56), which fell out of the American League's second wild-card spot with Seattle's win in Oakland.

Jose Martinez rifled a 419-foot homer to center off reliever Scott Alexander in the fourth to give St. Louis its first lead. The Cardinals won that game, too. Maurer (1-5) took the loss.

Hammel pitched decently Friday night in a 5-2 loss to Seattle, permitting six hits and three runs in 6 1/3 innings, with a walk and three strikeouts. Merrifield's four hits tied his career high. St. Louis is also 3-7 in Lynn's last 10 starts in game four of a series, and 1-4 in Lynn's last five interleague starts.
