Trump 'will never stop fighting' for Christians, says Pence

Pence hired outside counsel to represent him before congressional inquiries and federal investigation headed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

He told reporters that the president fired Comey due to the recommendation of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein shortly before Trump contradicted Pence and other surrogates by telling NBC News he was thinking about the Russian Federation probe when he fired Comey.

A Pence spokesman said the vice president retained Richard Cullen, chairman of McGuireWoods LLP, to deal with inquiries from House and Senate committees as well as those from Robert Mueller, the special counsel overseeing the FBI's Russian Federation probe.

According to ABC News, a spokesman for Pence confirmed the hire an in emailed statement.

Cullen previously served as Virginia attorney general and USA attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. His official biography from McGuireWoods lists, in addition to his time at the Justice Department, his experience working for former Sen. Many expect Trump to roll back several policies and actions from former President Barack Obama done in an effort to help thaw relations between the two nations. He lashed out on Twitter Thursday, writing, "You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!"

Scrutiny of the president's actions has intensified since he fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey last month.
