Pakistan has been treading a careful path since Saudi and other Gulf countries snapped diplomatic ties with Qatar after accusing the oil-rich country of supporting terrorist groups.

This deal may signal that the U.S. President Donald Trump and the Pentagon are at loggerheads, as the latter praised Qatar's contributions to anti-terror fight while Trump accused it of supporting militant groups.

It added that US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis and Qatar's Defence Minister Khalid al-Attiyah had also discussed the current state of operations against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) and the importance of de-escalating tensions in the Gulf.

While Trump appeared to back Saudi Arabia and Tillerson took a more neutral tone, the Defense Department underscored its relations with Qatar, saying the United States was grateful to the country for its support of the United States presence there.

The United States agreed a $12-billion warplane sale to Qatar and began manoeuvres with its military Thursday, re-affirming support for the emirate in the throes of a diplomatic crisis with its neighbours. Boeing Co is the prime contractor on the fighter jet sale to the Middle East nation.

Qatar has expressed its frustration at not receiving specific demands from the Saudi alliance, complicating efforts to reach a diplomatic solution.

The exact number of fighters that will put United States of America to Qatar, do not call.

A Qatari defense ministry source said the deal was for 36 jets.

USA officials Secretary of State Rex Tillerson have called for the crisis to be de-escalated and on Wednesday while appearing before the House foreign affairs committee, said reports.

Two U.S warships arrived in Qatar's Hamad Port on Wednesday to conduct a joint military drill but details have not been shared, Qatar News Agency was quoted. He stated that recognizing US military presence and US-Qatar military and defense ties were important. Qatar is the host to one of the largest United States military bases in the region.

While the two sides are far apart at the moment, there are positive signs they're willing to reach a conclusion and want Kuwait to continue to mediate, reports said, adding that Turkey was also helping. Al Udeid Air Base is home to more than 11,000 US and coalition troops.

"Although the kingdom is a party in this crisis, we know that King Salman is a party in resolving it", the Turkish minister said.

Bahrain and the UAE have also banned expressions of sympathy for Qatar.

"The time had come to call on Qatar to end its funding", Trump said.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu is due to visit Saudi Arabia on Friday in an attempt to help solve the crisis.
