Trump declares 'total vindication' in tweets on Comey

Trump was expected to face journalists later Friday in a joint news conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, who is visiting the White House.

Comey didn't agree to almost three hours public of hearings to talk about whether the president was/is under investigation by the FBI, as it relates to Russian Federation meddling in the us election. "Given Attorney General Sessions's participation in President Trump's campaign, it was for that reason, and that reason alone, the attorney general made the decision on March 2, 2017 to recuse himself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for president of the United States", a Justice Department spokesman said in a statement.

Throughout all of this, Comey reflected he could have been more explicit with the president about the inappropriateness of Trump asking about Michael Flynn's investigation.

In his opening statement, Comey somberly accused the Trump administration of spreading "lies, plain and simple" in the aftermath of his abrupt ouster, declaring that the administration "chose to defame me and, more importantly, the FBI" by claiming the bureau was in disorder.

"We need access to those tapes, and the special counsel needs access to those tapes", Ms. Collins said.

Comey said he refused on all points, told senators of the detailed memos he had written after his conversations with Trump and said he hoped those conversations were taped because he is confident of their veracity. "There was not a counterintelligence investigation of Mr. Trump, and I decided in the moment to say it, given the nature of our conversation".

I asked him to because I thought that might prompt the appointment of a special counsel.

The president also tweeted about one of the other bombshells that came out of the testimony hearing-that Comey helped orchestrate a leak of his personal memos of his interactions with Trump to the press.

The disclosures that followed Comey's firing have raised questions about why Comey, known in government for an independent streak and a willingness to buck protocol, did not speak out publicly while on the job, or at least make his objections directly known to the president. "I hope you can let this go", Trump said, according to Comey's notes.

Russian Federation has denied such interference. Dianne Feinstein of California asked, "Why didn't you stop and say, 'Mr". In his prepared remarks, Comey said Sessions "did not reply" and on Thursday added that he had "a recollection of [Sessions] just kind of looking at me".

Comey admitted that Lynch was able to pressure him into toning down his own language when speaking about Hillary Clinton's email investigation.

Trump has begrudgingly accepted that assessment.
