By "total and complete vindication", Trump appeared to mean that Comey confirmed telling the president on three occasions that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not investigating Trump personally.

And he described an Oval Office meeting where Trump asked everyone but him to clear the room, then said, "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go".

"James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said and some of the things that he said just weren't true", Trump said. When Trump was asked whether he himself would be willing to testify under oath, he said "100%". "Yesterday showed no collusion, no obstruction", Trump said.

A New York Times reporter was relegated to the back row of a White House press conference on Friday, one day after fired FBI Director James Comey said a bombshell report about Russian Federation by the major newspaper was "not true".

But the one question Trump wouldn't definitely answer is if recordings of his conversations with Comey exist.

Mr Comey accused Mr Trump of firing him to try to undermine the bureau's investigation into possible collusion between his 2016 presidential campaign team and Russian Federation. That was an excuse by the Democrats, who lost an election they shouldn't have lost.

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) responded to the hearing afterward, "I think at this moment there's no reason to question that what the president said is what happened".

Comey wanted to prevent the appointment of a special counsel for Hillary Clinton, who was the subject of an FBI investigation, but he wanted to "prompt" the appointment of a special counsel for President Trump, who was not the subject of an FBI investigation. "That, Comey said, anxious him".

TRUMP: I didn't say that.

During his testimony, Comey also revealed that he had leaked memos regarding his interactions with Trump to "a good friend" at Columbia Law School.

Trump's Twitter account had been quiet throughout Comey's testimony accusing the administration of spreading "lies".

Meanwhile the leaders of the House Intelligence Committee, which is also probing Russian election meddling, wrote Comey requesting his notes memorializing his conversations with Trump. If Mueller wants to compel Trump to testify, Akerman and others said, Trump will not have a choice in the matter. He has represented multiple government leakers, including Linda Tripp, who was sacked from her government job after secretly recording and then publicizing tapes of Monica Lewinsky talking about her affair with then-President Bill Clinton.

Regarding Qatar, home to USA military facilities and a diplomatic imbroglio with its Gulf Region neighbors, Trump said, "We ask Qatar and other countries in the region to do more, and do it faster".

In the Trump-Kasowitz-Comey triangle, though, things are anything but typical.

He also retweeted a comment from attorney Alan Dershowitz, who had written: "We should stop talking about obstruction of justice".

And at five different points in his testimony on Thursday, Vox writes, Comey "tactfully, without a hint of smugness, either directly or indirectly said that Trump did lie, might have lied, or feared that he would have lied".

And Comey said he's all for the president releasing any tapes - if they exist.
