UP: 22 passengers charred to death as bus catches fire after collision with truck in Bareilly

Twenty two passengers died, while 15 sustained injuries. "Bodies of the victims were charred beyond recognition", senior police officer Rohit Singh Sajwar said. According to PTI, the bus driver lost his life in the accident, while the conductor has suffered serious injuries. Accused truck driver is still absconding, he added. The high speeding vehicles collided with each other and the truck rammed into the fuel tank of the bus after which the diesel spilled out putting the bus on fire. "Six passengers are critically injured and have been hospitalised", Jogendra Kumar said. Most of the injured are said to be in a critical condition. The Police is yet to ascertain the number of passengers who were inside the bus at the time of the accident.

The money will be sourced from the prime minister's national relief fund (PMNRF).

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the loss lives in a bus accident in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath also announced a compensation of Rs 50000 for the kin of the dead and Rs 25000 for those injured.

The bus, which caught fire soon after colliding with the truck, was reportedly of Delhi Roadways and was heading to Gonda district.

Some injured were rushed to the nearby medical facilities.

The AFP news agency quoted police as saying the doors of the bus jammed after the collision, trapping passengers inside.
