Man Arrested At Phoenix Comic Con For Threatening Officers With Real Weapons

Armed Man Arrested At Phoenix Comicon After Threatening Police

A man armed with loaded handguns and a shotgun was arrested at Phoenix Comicon yesterday and told police he meant to kill "bad" police officers as well as Jason David Frank, the actor known for being the Green Power Ranger who is attending the convention, according to court documents.

Police say Sterling was armed with a shotgun, three handguns and knives, as well as ammunition and "other handheld weapons".

Police say the man was inside the Phoenix Convention Center and struggled with officers before he was detained.

The convention runs Thursday through Sunday at the Phoenix Convention Center, with guests including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's Karen Gillan, Danny Trejo and Agents of SHIELD's Gabriel Luna.

But his vendetta against cops was only one reason for his attendance, according to police who said he meant to kill Power Rangers actor Jason David Frank.

Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said the weapons were not checked by security.

Young was among many other comic book, science fiction and animation fans frustrated and upset over the sudden ban on fake weapons and the added security and heavy delays before entering the event. There will also be an increased police presence with both uniformed and non-uniformed officers.

Police say they believe the man acted alone and it's an isolated incident.

"As an added precaution, weapons of any kinds - including simulated, replica or toy weapons - will not be permitted into the venue", Fortune added.

Police have now added extra security to the Comicon and banned all costume prop weapons, including swords sabers and fake guns. Because of the heightened security, entry lines into the event will likely be slower.

The man, who was not identified by police, is now at police headquarters with detectives. That includes costume props, no matter what it is made out of.

They learned of the suspect after getting information about a man who was going to be armed inside the event with the intent to target officers.
