Patriots owner Robert Kraft hosted a private party to present the players, coaches and staff with a lavish prize commemorating their dramatic Super Bowl LI triumph over the Atlanta Falcons at NRG Stadium on February 5. The rings reportedly featured more than 200 diamonds and were personalized with each player's jersey number. The Patriots opted for something more subtle.
It's obviously no coincidence.
Surrounding the custom sapphire corundum is another perimeter row of diamonds, bringing the total to more than 280 diamonds - in fact, there are rumored to be 283 diamonds exactly in honor of the team's 28-3 comeback win against the Falcons. The rings also have the quotes "Unequivocally the sweetest", "We are all Patriots", and "Greatest comeback ever".
Quarterback Tom Brady, who was the Super Bowl MVP for the fourth time, wore the four Super Bowl rings he had previously earned with the Patriots before getting the "one for the thumb". The right arbor reads, "Greatest comeback ever", a nod to the 31 unanswered points scored for the biggest comeback win in Super Bowl history.
A Jostens representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment on this year's rings.
