When the two children didn't return home on Sunday night, their mother phoned the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, anxious about her children. Once inside, police found the two lifeless children - Juliana Camara, 6, and her brother, Julian Camara, who was 18 months - inside their father's bedroom, the statement explains.
Authorities said Camara had custody of the children on Father's Day Sunday and was to return them to their mother that evening.
Camara reportedly hung himself, and the children's cause of death is not yet known.
Police believe a father murdered his young son and daughter then hanged himself on Father's Day during a custody battle with his estranged wife.
Officers aren't saying how the children died at this time.
Neighbors tell KRON that Camara had only lived there for a few months, but the arguments between him and his wife were intense on several occasions. But neighbors say Camara did appear to be on edge in recent days.
A father killed his two children and himself in a Santa Rosa double murder-suicide on Monday morning, according to police.
'He was great, he'd have the kids visit, and ride bikes, and he'd take them to the park, ' Poncia said sadly, 'and so I don't know. The video was recorded after police fired a taser at a man outside the Gold Coin Motel in Santa Rosa.
A YouCaring page has been set up to help Julian and Juliana's family. "The mother immediately did report it to the sheriff's department and they immediately begun investigating", Santa Rosa Police Dept. Lt. John Cregan told ABC 7. Instead, deputies found them in his apartment Monday morning. The two were going through a divorce.
Lazzarini said that the couple had three contacts with law enforcement and other agencies since they separated in December, but none of the incidents clearly foreshadowed the violence that befell their children. The couple was going through a custody dispute at the time. Buchholz said she never saw Camara mistreat his children.
