Bruno Mars to Open the 2017 BET Awards in Los Angeles

The Nigerian musician who has over the years registered his displeasure at the awards show was however not present to pick up the award as www.nydjlive.com is reliably informed that he was involved in another gig elsewhere. A backstage live stream will take place on Twitter at around 8:30 pm ET.

The show which will be aired on BET (DStv Channel 129) and hosted by stand-up comedian Leslie Jones, will have stars such as Mary J. Blige, Maxwell, Xscape and El Debarge along with some of hip hop's hottest talent including A$AP Rocky, French Montana, Gucci Mane, Swae Lee, Khalid and SZA and Kamasi Washington perform.

At last year's edition of the BET Awards, Beyonce won Video of the Year for "Formation", the first track from her hit album "Lemonade". Chance is also set to receive the Humanitarian Award.

This is the second straight year Wizkid will be winning the award.

The group is set to be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award and BET is sure to have something in store to delight fans.

The 31-year-old singer-songwriter-producer is also nominated for best male R&B/pop artist, going up against Chris Brown, The Weeknd, Usher and Trey Songz.

Mars has been on an R&B adventure with his latest album, "24K Magic", which was inspired by '90s R&B.

Video of the year will see Migos' popular tune "Bad and Bougee" compete against Big Sean's "Bounce Back", Beyoncé's, "Sorry", Solange's "Cranes in the Sky" and Bruno Mars' "24k Magic".

The 2017 nominations are being led by Beyonce who has been named in seven categories.
