The extremists have been trying to fortify their positions in the Syrian city in the face of a USA -led coalition onslaught on Raqqa, the group's de facto capital.

Since the shooting down of the Syrian plane, Russian Federation has stopped coordination with the Syria and threatened to shoot down any planes from the us -led coalition that it detects west of the Euphrates river. Wahhabism is the hallmark of many terrorist groups operating in the Middle East, including the medieval Islamic State and Al Qaeda.

The latest blatant attack by the USA confirms what many already know, the Pentagon is risking a major war to defend ISIS, the brainchild of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Sunday's incident marks the latest in a series of United States attacks on pro-regime forces.

Here's a look at where things stand for the conflict's main players. But the drive toward the border has already brought him into conflict with USA -backed opposition forces to the south and east. He is blaming the government for the truce's collapse.

Ehud Ya'ari of Israel's Channel 2 said that only one of the Iranian missiles actually managed to reach its intended target in Syria. The attack was in retaliation for combined attacks in Iran earlier this month on both the parliament and the tomb of Ayatollah Khomeini, in which 17 people, including five civilians were killed and more than 50 wounded. "The Saudis and Americans are especially receivers of this message", he said. Those claims haven't been confirmed yet, we should note.

But its progress has alarmed North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member Turkey, which views the main Kurdish militia in the group as an extension of the rebels that have waged a decades-long insurgency in southeast Turkey.

It was also the first time the U.S. Air Force had shot down a manned aircraft since May 1999.

On April 7, Trump authorized a cruise missile strike against a Syrian air base in response to a suspected chemical weapons attack by the regime against civilians.
