Kupwara (Jammu and Kashmir),[India] June 7 (ANI): At least four infiltrators have been gunned down in Machhil sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district, where Indian security forces have successfully foiled an infiltration bid today.
One soldier also died in the exchange of fire, the army said in a statement.
The infiltration bid comes after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh last week said infiltration from Pakistan is down by 45 percent in six months after surgical strikes.
The spokesman said another infiltration bid was foiled in Uri sector of North Kashmir's Baramulla district.
The Army on Thursday spotted a group of militants in Kupwara's Naugam Sector near the LoC.
The Army had killed four terrorists on Wednesday when they tries to infiltrate from the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK).
When the militants opened fire on the troops, two of the soldiers were injured.
Two soldiers were injured in a gunfight in Uri Sector. Sources said that the entire area was cordoned off to track down more members of the infiltration group.
Reportedly, the operation to infiltrate terrorists in the region is still on. A total of 15 militants have been killed on the LoC in Kashmir Valley since May 26. Officials said that a search operation is underway to track down other militants.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown marked by anti-India demonstrations will be observed across the Kashmir Valley tomorrow against the killing of a student by Indian troops in Shopian.
