3 more Kmarts in MI to close, report says

They total 16 Sears stores, 49 Kmart stores, and 7 auto centers, according to the report.

An internal memo obtained by Business Insider indicates 72 more store closings by Sears Holdings Co.

Just four days into 2017, Sears Holdings, which manages Kmart and Sears, announced the closure of dozens of additional Kmart and Sears locations. Most of the closures will take place in September.

Carl Campbell, executive director of the Dalton-Whitfield Joint Development Authority, said the Sears closing is "disappointing" but not surprising.

A specific closing date for the store on West Main Street has not yet been announced.

Sears' financial woes that have deepened in recent months.

With almost 250 locations closing in 2017, Sears will operate a total of 1,200 stores, which is down from 2,000 just five years ago. Sears did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In April, the Rue21 clothing retailer began closing 400 stores, including its outlet in the Indiana Mall.

Riefs also said the how many associates the store employs is "not publicly available" but most are part-time or hourly workers. MI closings this year affected 11 Kmarts and one Sears store.
