The plane landed in Kunming Changshui Airport safely six hours later and passengers were immediately taken to the Yunnan No. 1 People's Hospital and Yan'an Hospital in Kunming, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Following the incident, the aircraft did manage to land safely in Kunming, where medical teams were on scene to assist injured passengers.
"Clear-air turbulence changes significantly within the transatlantic flight corridor when the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is doubled", the researchers said.
None of the injured are in critical condition.

Last week, a China Eastern flight bound for Shanghai had to make an emergency landing when one of its engines was severely damaged soon after take-off at Sydney, Australia. No passengers or crew were injured and the carrier was investigating the incident.
China Eastern Airlines said on its official microblog account that the company has arranged medical services, without providing other details. It added that all passengers should fasten their safety belts during flights for safety.
Just a week earlier, a China Eastern flight from Sydney to Shanghai was forced to turn around after its flight crew noticed a hole in the plane's engine just moments after taking off.
