James surpasses Jordan as playoffs scoring leader

LeBron James passes Michael Jordan on the all-time playoff scoring list

James scored 35 points and passed Michael Jordan to become the NBA's all-time playoff scoring leader as the Cavaliers routed the Boston Celtics 135-102 on Thursday night to claim their third straight Eastern Conference title.

Golden State led the league with 67 wins this season and is a staggering 27-1 in its last 28 games - including a ideal 12-0 in the Western Conference playoffs, the first time a team has gone this deep into an National Basketball Association postseason without losing. "To be honest, I didn't do one (bit of) prep for Golden State yet because I really believe that this (Boston) team is a good team". It has nothing to do with passing the rings, passing the points, passing MVPs.

At the very moment where the clock ran out in that series, the person James was embracing was Durant - telling the then-Thunder star, his offseason workout partner at the time, how proud of him he was.

Our NEWS CENTER team caught up with some of the Celtics players in the locker room after the game, and they said they are, of course, upset about the loss, but they're proud of what their team accomplished this season.

Kyrie Irving added 24 points and Kevin Love contributed 15. He did it with a three-pointer late in the third quarter - the first of a string of three straight from beyond the arc. They won the three road games in the series by a combined 90 points, the last two by a total of 77.

But if the Celtics plan on contending for a championship next season, keeping Thomas is a must. Whenever a team falls short of a title, we can always play th "what if" game: What if the Celtics hung onto their 16-point lead in Game 4 and ended up tying the series two-all.

"Playing in this league, you can't take anything for granted", Warriors guard Stephen Curry said. "But they tested us every single minute, and we needed that".

"I think the first thing for me was seeing the excitement on Kyle (Korver's) and Deron (Williams') face", James said.

Love scored Cleveland's first eight points and finished the opening frame with 10 points and five rebounds. He also sustained a strained left thigh in the third quarter but returned to the game. James scored 11 points with six assists in the period and Irving, showing no sign of the twisted left ankle he suffered in the third quarter of game four, scored nine as Cleveland shot 64 percent from the field in the first quarter.

"I think I fell in love with the game because of Mike, but when you're growing up and seeing Michael Jordan it's nearly like a god, so I never did believe I could be Mike". But it meant little as Celtics never led in any of their home games in the series.

He continued, "So I think that helped shape my game".

The Cavaliers basically conceded the East's top seed to the Celtics at the end of the regular season by opting to rest its starters in advance of the playoffs.
