TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA -Two people, including a former mayor of the Village of Tangipahoa who also played for the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns, died early Friday morning in a crash on Hwy.

A 20-year-old woman backed out of a parking spot and into both lanes of a highway, according to police, and made contact with Jackson's 2013 Kawasaki that was traveling at "a high rate of speed".

His breakout season was 1996 with the Ravens - their first year in Baltimore after the move from Cleveland - when he was sixth in the league in receiving yards (1,201) and was tied for the lead in touchdown receptions with 14.

Dyson also served as mayor of his hometown, Tangipahoa, from 2009 - 2013. The impact was so strong that the bike reportedly smashed through the driver's side door and killed both Jackson and the driver of the auto.

"Today, our hearts are saddened by the very bad news involving Michael", Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome said. After five years in Cleveland, he finished with 2,797 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns.

He played in college at Southern Mississippi, catching passes from future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre.

"One of my most rewarding achievements after retiring as a player was watching Michael Jackson develop as a wide receiver", Newsome said.
