Adam Schefter reaffirms Jimmy Garoppolo is not getting traded

To appease Haslam and take Garrett as the No. 1 pick, the Browns coaching staff plans to work out a trade for New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. How will a Jimmy Garoppolo trade figure in the Chip Kelly system?

Even without Tom Brady in the picture, the New England Patriots appeared to have anticipated a Jimmy Garoppolo trade.

The Patriots they would receive a near-king's ransom in return for trading Garoppolo, the most coveted backup quarterback in the league. Considering Bill Belichick's track record, fans should expect something totally unexpected this week as the 2017 NFL Draft approaches. However, the latest speculations suggest that Garoppolo is staying in New England despite the interest from several teams. Don't rule out the possibility of them actually trading for a quarterback instead. Considering the fact that the Patriots do not have a first or second round pick entering this Thursday's draft, one has to believe Belichick is up to something.

Jimmy Garoppolo was the Patriots starter in their first two games last season when Tom Brady served his four-game suspension. All of his numbers point to potential success as a starting quarterback, possibly giving the Patriots a strong reason to hold on to him. What it is safe to assume, though, is that there will suitors looking to sign him to a multi-year deal as soon as he becomes available. The Patriots also gave up a third-round pick and acquired the fourth-round selection of the Saints to complete the deal.

With offseason acquisitions nearly completed, Bill Belichick doesn't even need to place a pick and his squad would still be the favorite to win the back-to-back Super Bowl champions. Sources had similarly told Schefter in early March that New England meant to keep Garoppolo for 2017 and possibly beyond, in a decision that would have a ripple effect on QB-needy teams throughout the NFL.

Belichick acquired cornerback Stephon Gilmore, wide receiver Brandin Cooks, tight end Dwayne Allen and defensive end Kony Ealy.

That being said, next year is going to be very interesting.
