French Lawmakers Urge Hollande to Recognize Palestinian State

He told the UNHRC member states that Israel is moving towards an "apartheid solution" with its new Normalization Law, and warned nations not to move their embassies in Israel to Jerusalem. The PA, according to reports, is extremely concerned that President Trump will fulfill his promise to move the U.S. Embassy to Israel to Yerushalayim, and fears that the installation of David Friedman as America's ambassador to Israel will prevent it from making demands in negotiations, if any are to take place.

USA -sponsored peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel collapsed in 2014 over the latter's refusal to stop building Jewish-only settlements in the occupied Palestinian West Bank.

The French Newspaper Le Journal Du Dimanche published a letter Monday signed by over 150 French parliamentarians, in which they called on President Francois Hollande to recognize a Palestinian state.

Over the past few years, European countries have been pushed by worldwide solidarity with Palestine to pressure Israel, which since the collapse of the 2014 USA -sponsored talks has pressed on with building internationally-recognized illegal settlements in occupied territory the Palestinians want for their state. The three reports have been authored separately by Michael Lynk, special human rights representative for the council in the Palestinian territories, the Office of the UN Secretary General, and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein.

He reiterated his demand for an worldwide system to be established for the protection of the Palestinian people and a binding mechanism to be developed with a clear and definitive timeline.

Abbas' speech at the UNHCR comes just weeks after President Donald Trump appeared to walk away from a long-standing USA commitment to the two-state-solution.

According to the letter, "the summit provided the worldwide community with an opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to the two-state solution". I'm very happy with the one that both parties like. He said that the prime minister could push for a one-state solution if he so wishes.

Nikki Haley, the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, quickly put out a statement saying the USA "absolutely" supports a two-state-solution, but was looking for new ideas to push things forward.

A resolution reiterating the UNHCR's call for Israel to return the Golan Heights to Syria is expected by the end of this year's session on March 24.

Israel captured the territory during the Six Day war, annexing it in 1981.
