After 73 days of fighting for life at Apollo Hospitals, Chief Minister Selvi J.Jayalalithaa breathed her last on the 5th of December, 2016. When asked why the world was made to believe that she was improving despite she was critically ill, the doctors answered, "This is a policy related question, and we are doctors, so we can not answer that". The doctors said the best possible treatment was provided to her in Apollo hospital."Everything that could have been done was done", Dr Bealesaid. This was for nominating AIADMK candidates for elections to two seats and bypoll to one segment a year ago. Dr Richard Beale, who was in-charge of her treatment, revealed that it was severe infection with damage to organs that led to her death.
One of the treating doctors, pulmonologist Dr Babu K Abraham, said Jayalalithaa was brought to the hospital with breathlessness, which they later diagnosed was caused by infection in the blood.
The AIADMK supremo was put on ventilator support before being sedated for a period of 10 days as her sepsis worsened, Abraham said.
"So bacteria were going from the blood and that was where the infection was identified and resulted in her general poor condition", he said.
The doctor said it was chose to discontinue the process after about 24 hours and the decision was taken after consultation with all doctors, including the AIIMS team, who had arrived.
"The matter was shared with all doctors, ministers, government of India, and others concerned", Dr. Beale said, flanked by Dr P. Balaji of Madras Medical College and Dr K. Babu of Apollo Hospitals. VK Sasikala was on Sunday elected leader of the AIADMK legislature party. "We will not be in a position to answer that", said Dr Beale. Beale called in an intrusion on her privacy.
He also said any question of exhuming the body of Jayalithaa was "ridiculous".
# The UK lung specialist also added, "She was very much completely aware and interactive".
Jayalalithaa did not want to be shifted to London, though the doctors reviewed the option of transferring her to there.
This has come when Sasikala Natarajan is all set to take over as Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister.
On being asked why there were no images of Jayalalithaa released, Dr Baele said, "No images are taken of critically ill patients in ICU".
Beale said he met Sasikala on a number of occasions.
Jayalalithaa was declared dead at Apollo Hospital here on December 6.
According to the doctors, normal embalming process was followed after Jayalalithaa's death.
"Honourable Amma had sudden cardiac arrest, and it was witnessed", said a doctor during a press conference on Monday.
