After showing several spoofed-versions of the cover to the 23-year-old model, Kimmel then panned over to cameras in NY, where the collector's cover was showcased and lit up on the side of the Empire State Building.

Kate first appeared in the magazine in 2011, when she was named Rookie of the Year, and she subsequently secured back-to-back covers in 2012 and 2013, thereby establishing her as a household name and one of the most recognisable women in the world. Then the New York Post reported that Upton was making obnoxious diva demands, one of them being that if she didn't get the cover, she wouldn't be in the magazine at all.

The SI Swimsuit 2017 edition hits newsstands today.

"It always feels great to be a part of Sports Illustrated, but especially this year because of what the issue is all about".

The 2017 magazine features Bouchard, Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki, and two other athletes among the many swimsuit models also included.

At this point I could just write "purple monkey dishwasher", because let's face it...most of you probably just watched the video.

To get her in the mindset to pose, Williams says that her music requests were primarily "cheesy '90s songs".

"It was actually Robyn Lawley, Tara Lynn and Candice Huffine on the Vogue Italia cover", she explained of her change in career path. Published every year since 1964, when Babette March appeared on the first ever cover, the SI Swim issue is something that everyone looks forward to. I'm annoyed because all three cover photos are bad and Serena's would have been better.

Although she was born in MI, model and actress Kate Upton undoubtedly has Space Coast salt water in her blood.

I'm impressed because she got exactly what she wanted.

But despite its reputation, the editor of the annual issue is speaking out about body diversity.

"Growing up in such a sports oriented family, Sports Illustrated always meant to much so me, seeing these fantastic women who were so confident and loved their bodies", she said.

The inaugural "VIBES" festival is the latest live event offering from Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.

Inside the pages of this year's issue, fans will also find photospreads of Teigen, Christie Brinkley, Bianca Balti, Nina Agdal and Hannah Davis Jeter, as well as Olympic gold medal gymnasts Simone Biles and Aly Raisman.
