According to a statement put out by the son-in-law of Charles Kushner-Jared's father-the potential purchase of the Marlins is off if Loria is nominated by the White House for the prestigious role. He gave $125,000 to the Trump Victory super-political action committee in 2016 in addition to a $2,700 contribution to Trump's campaign.
An alleged $1.6 billion deal for Jeffrey Loria to sell the Marlins to a group led by Joshua Kushner and family will be no more if Loria is appointed as the United States' ambassador to France.
Other parties are also interested in buying the Marlins, and Loria might reopen negotiations with them.
"Our family has been friends with Jeff Loria for over 30 years, been in business together and even owned an AAA baseball team together", Mr. Meyer said.
Last week, Forbes and The Associated Press reported that Loria has a preliminary agreement to sell the team for about $1.6 billion to a NY businessman, but the deal could fall through because the final purchase price hasn't been determined.
Preibus reportedly has received a signoff from Trump for the post. The report named him as one of four people selected by White House chief of staff Reince Priebus for top diplomatic posts.
The Kushner's are the sons of real estate mogul and convicted felon Charles Kushner.
Another hurdle then seems to be Loria's candidacy for a position with the Trump administration.
Since Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner is a senior adviser to the president, the Kushners reportedly are wary that the purchase would look like a corrupt ambassadorship-for-team trade.
Loria is also a longtime Republican donor.
