The prospect of undefeated boxer Mayweather and UFC two-time simultaneous champion McGregor fighting in a boxing match now looks to be a near certainty, with both camps locked in a verbal back-and-forth regarding negotiations and who would emerge triumphant. McGregor is under contract with the UFC and the UFC would likely want a piece of the action.
The UFC maintains exclusive rights to McGregor as a contracted athlete so it's tough to see how a bout with Mayweather would come together without their involvement.
And he does not believe the Dubliner will be the boxing pushover many predict if he does step into the ring with the legendary Mayweather.
Last August, before it became apparent that Mayweather was actually interested in coming out of retirement for McGregor's offer, Canelo was singing a very different tune.
"Floyd's a b-- and he's petrified", McGregor said when the interviewer told him that the boxer is down to do the fight.
The 39-year-old Mayweather, who retired in 2015 with an unblemished 49-0 professional boxing record, has spoken publicly to reveal that the fight could go ahead this year, but also posted messages on social media to dismiss reports that a deal had already been agreed for the fight to take place.
As for McGregor's chances of defeating Mayweather, which many observers think are very slim in a boxing-only match, Roach noted, "He is a pretty good striker".
"It would be offensive to my fans if I fought McGregor".
In his fighting career, Mayweather gained something of a reputation for dodging fighters when they were in their prime; it took almost a decade for him to fight Manny Pacquiao.
But "Money" rubbished those suggestions and called on the UFC star to make the fight.
"I've no problem going and slapping the head off one of his opponents that he couldn't finish". Everything's pointing in the right direction. And after watching McGregor training, Floyd Sr gave a brutal assessment of the Irish fighter.
While Mayweather Jr. may have the upper hand in the match, Roach couldn't just bet against McGregor without considering all the facts.
