Chiefs rout Broncos 33-10 to keep AFC West title hopes alive

Poe, who is listed at 346 pounds, lined up in the backfield and received a handoff in the game's final moments as the Chiefs were just two yards from the Broncos end zone at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. They gained 45 yards and helped set up a 10-yard touchdown run by Smith. They got off to a slow start, allowing the Chiefs to score three first-quarter touchdowns.

Kelce took a screen pass and followed perfectly executed blocking for an 80-yard touchdown and a 21-7 lead. Now, to close it out, they have lost three straight, the most recent a 33-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas night.

Denver enters their game against Kansas City on Sunday needing a win to keep their season alive.

"I would have saved it for another game, if I was them, " Harris said.

But their hopes of a sixth consecutive division title and playoff appearances ultimately died after the offense went into a December stall following the 30-27 overtime loss to Kansas City.

Next week's game has playoff implications as well, just not for the Broncos. The Raiders are without Derek Carr and they play Denver next week.

"There's no division. That's battling and that's part of football", Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said.

So, it's no stunner that Hill is the fulcrum of the Broncos' blueprints for a season-salvaging victory Sunday night in the rematch at Kansas City.

The Chiefs are missing top pass rusher Justin Houston and the Broncos are without tight ends Virgil Green and A.J. Derby for their important AFC West showdown on Sunday night.

Facing fourth-and-10 from the Denver 14, Hill caught an 11-yard pass against cornerback Bradley Roby with 15 seconds left.

That led to a shouting match between defensive players who have held some of the NFL's best offenses in check, and a line that's been blamed for the Broncos' ugly offense.

But if Denver isn't tied with Kansas City, then the Broncos would win a natural two-team tie with the Dolphins for the last wild card berth.

"Making the playoffs is what we got done today", said veteran outside linebacker Tamba Hali, who is headed to the postseason for the third time in the four years with Andy Reid as the Chiefs head coach.

Both teams blew field-goal opportunities in the second quarter, as Cairo Santos missed a 39-yarder and Chiefs safety Eric Murray sniffed out a fake on a 53-yard attempt. They have significant playoff experience.
