Rams hint at more deep throws for Goff vs. Saints

After sitting behind Case Keenum for ten weeks, the Los Angeles Rams made a decision to give Jared Goff his first career start in Week 11 against the Miami Dolphins.

As a way to prepare for Sunday's game, we made a decision to do a Q & A with Ty Anania of WhoDatDish.com. A little more than a month later, on December 30, 2000, the Saints recorded the franchise's first playoff win by defeating the Rams 31-28 in an NFC wild-card game at the Superdome.

For the 11th time this season - I'm going to sound like a broken record - Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams is a must-win for the New Orleans Saints.

On Tuesday, we went back to September of 1971, for our second memorable game, the first ever win over the Rams by the Saints. I think that will continue this weekend against Goff.

The Saints, with quarterback Drew Brees, lead the National Football League in total offense and passing offense and rank third in scoring at 28.5 points a game.

Brees is less than two months away from his 38th birthday, but he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down.

On top of that, there was a lot of promise on this roster heading into the season.

Goff is not going to be able to have a reliable running game amidst the Superdome crowd noise. Once again, I sound like a broken record.

We've got veteran leadership on this team, players that are used to winning. If Goff was brought in to provide an extra spark to a Los Angelses offense that has croed only 39 points in their last four games, then it didn't seem to happen. It has held its last five to 346.2.

Remember all that talk during the offseason of how Robinson was healthy and developing and improving and ready to finally reach the potential the Rams saw in him in drafting him second overall in the 2014 draft? If Delvin Breaux can regain form as a shutdown corner, this defense is actually somewhat risky.

"We've been better in the red area", Payton said. But yes, there is still concern. Or, give his bosses all the justification they need to make his homecoming to Los Angeles a one-and-done deal before sending out the search party for a new coach.

His first attempt for the win was blocked, but a defensive offsides penalty against the Rams gave him another chance at the victor. Williams has the Rams defense ranked 6th in total defense, 6th in passing defense, and a respectable 15th against the run.

"As far as Jared's concerned, he did a really good job". Besides one weird throw last week that just seemed to slip out of his hand, he's made close to no mistakes in the passing game. I was disappointed in the outcome of the game, but I think you could see the light. Nothing derails Brees more than pressure up the middle.

Robinson's struggles were on display Sunday against the Dolphins when Goff scrambled for a key first down on a third and 10 play early in the fourth quarter.

The other was set by Jim Everett, whose 454 passing yards that day are still the most allowed by the Saints in a single game.

Brees knows that the Rams, led by defensive tackle Aaron Donald and inside linebacker Alec Ogletree, are relentless in their pursuit.

The only differences on the ensuing Los Angeles drive: it lasted six plays and it was Nate Stupar who picked off Goff to put the ball on Los Angeles's 47. His problem, as you're well aware, is consistency. In fact, the under is now 5-0 in the Rams' last five games in November and 7-1 in their last eight games following an ATS loss. That will mean one-on-one matchups for Fairley and fellow defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins. He also has been credited with four quarterback hits and two passes defended.

What are your final predictions for the game? Every week. But I have to give this game to them.

The Rams offense, he said, is poised to produce in the final six games.
