No. 8 Ohio State edges No. 11 Syracuse, 77-72

Vermont (5-2) had a chance to increase its lead to two points on the previous possession, but Kurt Steidl, who came up big moments before, failed to hit a free throw. Justin Wright-Foreman added 16 points, Deron Powers 10 points and Rokas Gustys 11 rebounds along with eight points.

"Hey, they've got a really good basketball team", Ohio State coach Kevin McGuff said. DePaul's final 10 points all came from the foul line.

Vermont rallied from a 12-point deficit with nine of its season-high 14 3-pointers coming in the second half.

Junior guard Carlton Hurst proved that he can hurt teams on offense and defense as he earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Ernie Duncan made seven 3-pointers and scored a career-high 33 points to lead Vermont over Hofstra 87-73 at the Gulf Coast Showcase on Tuesday for the Catamounts' fourth consecutive victory.

Baylor senior guard Kristy Wallace was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

The Bears shot 60 percent from the field on the night, including an eye-popping 74.3 percent in the second half, going 26-of-35 from the field in the game's final 20 minutes.

The third quarter ended about as well as Baylor could have wanted.

"I thought it was a great challenge for our team", Ohio State coach Kevin McGuff said. The Catamounts extended their lead to 24 points, their largest of the game, early in the second half. I give a lot of credit to DePaul for playing that style of play.

Graduate student forward Lexi Martins also provided quality minutes off the bench, chipping in with five points, five rebounds, and two steals in the first half, allowing Washington to take a breather and play limited minutes in the first half. "I was just trying to contribute any was that I can to help my team".

Baylor held DePaul scoreless for the final four minutes of the game, securing a 104-72 victory to advance in the Showcase.

"I feel like that's going to be another tough game for us", Prince said. "So now we play for a championship tomorrow and maybe it will be more of a conventional matchup with post players that stay inside more".

Shooting just 28.1 percent from the clip in the second half, FGCU was unable to outlast Mitchell and OSU's strong second half performance as they fell to the Buckeyes 79-66.

The Lady Bears will advance to the Gulf Coast Showcase Championship game tomorrow at 7:30 pm against the victor of tonight's matchup between Ohio State and Syracuse.
