The Spartans, who had only seven sacks coming into the game, had three against Ohio State.
Looking ahead, Ohio State should remain safely inside the Top Four of the College Football Playoff rankings, though it wasn't the most convincing victory.
The Spartans needed two plays and 46 seconds to score first. They faced the Buckeyes' pass defense - which is unquestionably OSU's strength. "We would compete with these guys, and we'd have an opportunity to win at the end".
Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said he'd planned all week for the Spartans to go for 2 if a situation like that came up. Now Ohio State Buckeyes could put the College Football Playoff committee in that huge dilemma about letting a team in without a conference championship.
The end result is a win, although the Buckeyes aren't in a position where simply winning is guaranteed to be good enough. Doesn't matter. The weather, Barrett's carries, Curtis Samuel's carries and every other nugget directed at Ohio State. "My job was to get them going".
Barrett completed just 10 passes for 86 yards, while O'Connor completed just six passes and threw a pair of interceptions, plus the pick on the two-point conversion attempt. The Aggies then scored the next 13 points, capped by a 47 yard run by Trayveon Williams to make it 23-7 in the third quarter. Watt picked off David Blough on the next offensive play.
Oklahoma State won its seventh straight game, improving to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the Big 12 behind a big second half performance.
The Spartans got the scoring started early after a Tyler O'Connor pass to LJ Scott went 64 yards for a touchdown on just the second play of the game.
TCU (5-5, 3-4) had a chance to take the lead in the final minute of the first half after a 40-yard run by quarterback Kenny Hill.
And, of course, the Spartans deserve credit as well for putting together another solid game plan and once more sticking a thorn in Meyer's side.
With swirling wind inside the stadium, Barrett was ineffective in the passing game. Should MSU sell out to stop the run, Ohio State can have a field day throwing it, even in bad weather.
The score remained tied as the two teams went to the break, and the eerie feel was impossible to ignore for Buckeye fans who had to be feeling like they had seen this movie before.
Ohio State's College Football Playoff hopes are still alive, after nearly getting dashed. He was 0-2 against the Buckeyes as Cincinnati's coach. The win moves Ohio State one step closer to making the #college #Football Playoff for the second time.
The Buckeyes finally broke through with a running touchdown from Mike Weber in the third quarter to take a 17-10 lead. He's just the third Ohio State freshman ever, joining Robert Smith and Maurice Clarett, to accomplish that.
Weber finished his day with 14 carries for 111 yards and the touchdown, and proved to be a difference maker.
Maryland also was missing its starting quarterback, as senior Perry Hills sat out because of a shoulder injury.
