Jaguar plans 10000 jobs in electric auto revolution

Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc, the UK's largest auto manufacturer, has receiving backing from Coventry City Council for the United Kingdom government to invest £450 million in Midlands infrastructure so that the carmaker can go forward with its planned expansion in the region.

Dr Speth told an industry meeting it wants to build electric vehicles in the West Midlands.

Jaguar Land Rover is confident to leverage its participation in the Formula-E series and come up with new electric motors and battery technologies and test them on the race track and improvise on them, so as to finally bring them up in the mainstream electric cars and make them even more evolved and be with the times. However, this is dependent on overcoming infrastructure and capacity issues. Having said that, electric cars are now getting more recognition thanks to experiential efforts from manufacturers and the government. Interestingly, the company touted the I-Pace as a concept auto.

Speth did point out that there is a need for government help and partnership to create the framework of connected digital roads and also a reliable 5g network to enable cars to communicate.

Jaguar Land Rover chief executive officer Ralf Speth is moving to double the number of vehicles produced worldwide to 1 million a year. Both the Jaguar I-PACE Concept and the Land Rover Discovery are revolutionary vehicles and major innovations in each of their segments, sharing our compelling combination of iconic British design and creative engineering. "Jaguar is the fastest-selling brand in America this year and Land Rover is building on sales records when we were the fastest growing luxury brand in the U.S. in 2015".

Joe Eberhardt, president and CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America, said, "Jaguar Land Rover is dramatically increasing its presence in the U.S. marketplace". He declined to confirm whether the second model would also be an EV or whether it would be a Land Rover.

JLR plans to launch about half of JLR's model range in the hybrid or electric variants within five years. This is JLR's debut in the world of zero-emission battery-electric passenger vehicles.
