Schweinsteiger 'dreaming' of United success

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been named as the new captain of the German team.

Manuel Neuer says the retiring Bastian Schweinsteiger is a great example to follow as Germany captain and revealed the midfielder was gracious in passing on the armband.

However, despite falling down the pecking order, the former Germany captain is still making himself available for selection which has endeared him to the United faithful.

Germany start their World Cup qualification campaign with a trip to Norway on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Schweinsteiger has said he is looking forward to his final Germany match on Wednesday and admits he will miss joining up with his country.

"My dream is to play for Manchester United and help them reach their goals", Schweinsteiger said at a German FA news conference in Duesseldorf. I know what Manchester United want. The 32-year-old midfielder made a decision to quit the national team after the European Championship, where Germany lost in the semifinals to host nation France in July.

Bastian Schweinsteiger made 18 Premier League appearances last season.

But having won nine, and drawn just one, of their 10 qualifying games to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, standards dropped in their Euro 2016 qualifiers. "I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's very hard that an opportunity will arrive", said the Reds' boss.

Schweinsteiger, a World Cup victor with Germany in 2014, was included in the squad by force rather than choice.

"We've got to wait and see how things go in September and October, but there is respect between us and that's important for me", told Schweinsteiger.

"I don't know how many minutes I'll play".

"I think as long as I feel good and am able to perform on a high level I will keep playing because I love football so much".
