Top Games to Watch During First Weekend of College Football Season

The 2016 NCAA college football season is a little over a month away, and college football fans are eagerly anticipating the first week of action because it will feature a lot of great matchups, some of which have national championship implications. Even though no games have been played yet, teams like Alabama and Clemson lead the college football predictions because they played for the title last year and return some of their best players this year.

Since we are also just as excited about the upcoming season, we have decided to take a look at the schedule and make a list of the top games during week 1 of the college football season.

Texas Longhorns vs Fighting Irish of Notre Dame

Last season, the Irish easily defeated the Longhorns who were a very young team. This time around, the game will be in Austin, and head coach Charlie Strong will have a more experienced team that will be trying to get some payback for the embarrassing loss last year. However, the Longhorns will likely be starting freshman quarterback Shane Buechele, which should give the Irish an advantage.

Clemson Tigers vs Auburn Tigers

A game already dubbed as the Tiger Bowl by fans, features one of the best quarterbacks in the country and one of the best running teams in the country. Clemson’s quarterback Deshaun Watson almost single handedly won the national championship game against Alabama, and will be trying to lead his team back to the championship game, but can’t afford to underestimate Auburn because they had a disappointing season last year.

Wisconsin Badgers vs LSU Tigers

The Badgers defense lost their coordinator to LSU during the offseason, and to make matter worse, they will be going up against Heisman Award hopeful Leonard Fournette, who is considered to be the best running back in the country by most experts. It is also what could be head coach Les Miles’ last season in Baton Rouge, which means the Tigers will come out ready to play. The Badgers also have hopes of winning the Big Ten, so this is going to be a very interesting game.

Georgia Bulldogs vs North Carolina Tar Heels

The Tar Heels came close to making the playoffs last season, but lost to Clemson in the ACC championship game. The team is loaded with a lot of talent and they believe they have what it takes to make the playoffs this year. The Bulldogs are starting a new era under coach Kirby Smart, but they also have the talent to compete for the national championship. If running back Nick Chubbs is healthy and ready to go, he will give the Carolina defense fits.

USC Trojans vs Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide are trying to win their second consecutive championship and the Trojans are trying to get into the playoff picture, so this is a game both teams can’t afford to lose. With Lane Kiffin returning to play the team that fired him, look for the Alabama offense to try to run up the score.

Houston Cougars vs Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners will be trying to get over their embarrassing playoff loss with an impressive victory over the Cougars, who were very good last season. The Cougars are rumored to be interested in joining the Big 12, so they would like to make a good impression with a win against the best team in the conference.

Ole Miss Rebels vs Florida State

The Seminoles are trying to make it back to the top of the conference this year, and a win over a ranked SEC team like the Rebels is just what they need. Ole Miss had a good season last year but dealt with some controversy in the offseason, and would love to get back to winning games.
