OSU Women In Final Four For First Time

The Lady Bears were upset by Louisville in the Sweet 16 in 2013 before consecutive regional final losses to Notre Dame. But the physical, precise-shooting Beavers (32-4) weren't letting up.

"If there was a fifth No. 1 seed, it would be Oregon State", said DePaul coach Doug Bruno. "Just a good team all around, they own their match-ups and they're just really aggressive”.

But for another week, it’s still hoops season at Oregon State. Wiese drained both free-throws on an ensuing foul, then Niya Johnson's potential game-tying shot at the buzzer rattled off the rim. Oregon State had seven 3-pointers, all in the first half.

"It was me, Morgan and Moriah saying, all right, we have to do this, we have to take over, we have to take control", Stewart said.

Three-Point Goals-Oregon St. 7-18 (Wiese 3-7, Weisner 2-5, Hanson 2-5, Hunter 0-1), Baylor 1-5 (Jones 1-3, Prince 0-1, Johnson 0-1).

Alexis Jones had 19 points to lead Baylor while Kalani Brown had 12 points and Davis had 11.

If you want a stat to explain the result tonight, look no further than free throws, where Baylor went 6-14 for the game against Oregon State's 15-18.

Oregon State guard Jamie Weisner, left, grabs the loose ball against Baylor guard Kristy Wallace, right, during the second half of a regional final of the women's NCAA Tournament Monday, March 28, 2016, in Dallas.

Oregon State, who entered the game averaging just 6.6 3-pointers a game, knocked down 10 triples in the game and shot.

He said his conversation with Ford happened at a mayors' conference in Ottawa, but they did not get to finish the discussion.

"I thought Baylor created a lot of momentum and they just made play after play to stay above water in this game", Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck said. And the Beaver defense clamped down at crunch time, forcing a turnover and two missed shots.

Oregon State had four players reach double figures, including Ruth Hamblin's double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

I can't really remember the last time OSU dealt with that much foul trouble, as Hamblin, Hunter and Weisner all played down the stretch with four. "You can't let the fourth scorer score”, Mulkey said.

"You know who they haven't beaten?" I think all year we've prepared very well, and we'll prepare for them.

The coach who had to conduct open tryouts to fill his first roster with the Beavers now has a team full of seniors and juniors he recruited.

Brooke McCarty added 15 points for Texas (31-4), which will play for the first time since 2003 in a game that could send it to the Final Four. But Texas scored the first 10 points of the fourth to take the lead for good.

Khadijiah Cave needed less than a minute to shift the momentum back to Baylor's side in the second half. That set up one of many key moves of the second half, as Rueck left Hamblin in, and the "Canadian Hammer”, below blocking a shot by Brown, responded with a personal 6-0 run, and played almost 5 minutes more before taking a break.

Baylor's loss propelled Oregon State to its first Final Four appearance in program history, while the Lady Bears were ousted from the Elite Eight for the third straight season. It stayed tight the rest of the way, but the Beavers prevailed.

The Lady Bears now transition into the offseason, but there's little doubt they'll be a championship contender once again in 2017. "Might as well make that dream reality, but we have to go after it and go get it".

"It's been a great season", Davis said.
