To celebrate, Apple slashed its starting price to $299 and gave it a couple of new bands too. You'll notice here that Apple has revealed a new "Space Black" Milanese Loop band for the Apple Watch. A space black Milanese loop will also be released, Cook has announced, but he has provided no information on when exactly sales will begin.
First and foremost, the Apple Watch has received a new woven nylon band, which Apple's Tim Cook says is based on a four-layer construction. "About a third of our Apple Watch wearers regularly change their bands".
Cook also referred to this new range of bands as the "new spring line-up " , positioning the device as a proper fashion accessory rather than a piece of technology. Additionally, Apple has added yellow, teal, and red leather Sport band options to its lineup.
The announcements around the Apple Watch were made at the event on March 21 where the company introduced the iPhone SE, a replacement to a 4-inch iPhone that has been on the market since 2013.
But the company faces competition from other players such as Samsung, LG and Motorola, along with more traditional watchmakers including Tag Heuer. Presumably, Apple is referring to the entry-level model, the Apple Watch Sport, which originally retailed at $349 for the 38mm size, and $399 for the 42mm size.
How has Apple's first wearable been selling? What we're asking our readers here is - do these bits and pieces make you interested in having an Apple Watch again? Many cost less than the Apple Watches do, and offer features that the Apple Watches don't - like cellular connection.
You'll find the full collection of new colors and new materials shown for the Apple Watch this morning at Apple headquarters.
